How do you measure success, what does success means to you?
Success means satisfied clients, happy employees and shareholders. I love being part of complex transactions where we can deliver professional services in a timely manner to help our clients be successful.
How do you keep employees engaged and motivated?
By encouraging them and challenging them to challenge themselves to take on more complex assignments, and to understand and appreciate how our work can affect large multimillion dollar transactions all around the world. By providing recognition when they have done well and helped clients achieve success in their transactions.
What is the best career advice you’ve received and why?
Do something that you enjoy and stimulates you, don’t just do it for the paycheck. Set your goals but don’t be afraid to move the goal posts from time to time.
How do you manage work life balance?
I am careful to ensure my work life does not take over my life, I always try to ensure I have sufficient “me” time. I have lots of interests outside of work, such as sailing and running. One of the benefits of living in the Caribbean is being able to sail all year round. I also love to cook and enjoy entertaining friends and family as a way of relaxing.
Share a book/person that has most influenced your career or life? And why?
The Tax Partner I trained under at EY in Cork, Ireland. Even as a trainee he would take me to high level meetings and then challenge me to come up with a tax proposal to suit the client’s needs; I learned to think outside the box, look at the legislation from different angles and always try to come up with solutions.
