How do you measure success, what does success means to you?
-
New Zealand’s regulatory framework and the role of the licensed supervisor are somewhat unique. Our function in the New Zealand financial markets is to act on behalf of investors and supervise the performance of the issuer’s obligations.
-
To me, success means developing trusted relationships with the entities we supervise, where we work alongside them (as ‘trusted advisors’) to provide comfort and solutions so they can be confident that they are meeting their compliance requirements and providing good outcomes to their customers.
-
The measure of success is delivering positive outcomes for shareholders, staff and regulators. Our success is underpinned by meeting our strategic purpose, which is to enhance confidence and trust in New Zealand financial market issuers and their products for the benefit of investors.
How do you keep employees engaged and motivated?
-
To me, it is about culture and environment. Having a culture where people embrace our values and vision will provide them with a sense of connection and commitment to a common purpose.
-
At the same time, it is important to have an environment where people are empowered and given opportunities to develop and grow (both professionally and personally), and be recognized and rewarded for their efforts.
How do you manage work-life balance?
-
There is an ever-growing focus on work-life balance, and I can understand why. Technology is one of the main contributors to enhancing and changing our work environments. However, at the same time, it has made us more accessible, demanding more of our time and making it harder to fully switch off and focus on other activities.
-
Flexible working has enabled us to maximize our work and personal activities, but it is also important to take proper breaks and holidays during the year. For me, taking leave over the summer holidays and going skiing in the winter helps me switch off from work and spend time with my family.
