1. How do you measure success, what does success mean to you?

I would measure success in a number of ways; happiness, personal growth, being a positive influence on others, making a positive contribution. Success to me is not necessarily a personal thing but is shared amongst all of those people who you work with and who have influenced you, bothin your personal and professional

2. How do you keep employees engaged and motivated?

By treating them as people first, rather than as employees. We all recognize that we have a job to do and that we are being paid to do it, but each person is an individual with different needs and drivers. Offering a certain amount of flexibility goes a long way.

3. What is the best career advice you’ve received and why?

It was something like “At the end of each day, try to leave the office in a better state than when you arrived”. I took that to mean that you cannot achieve everything every day,but do try to make sure you achieve something. Work days can be unpredictable and at times, workloads can appear overwhelming, but by working hard you will make a positive contribution and achieve your goals.

4. How do you manage work-life balance?

It is a challenge, especially with a 12 hour time difference between BVI and Hong Kong SAR, but it is important to try and enjoy the small things in life. Time with family and friends (I have two daughters), a walk with the dog, feet in the sand, etc. We are very lucky in the BVI that the island is very small so we don’t have a long commute. We can be working in the office but be home in 15 minutes. The flexibility to work remotely has also been tremendous for me to help my work-life balance.

5. Share a book/person that has most influenced your career or life? And why?

My wife, Joanna, has been a major influence on my career. Supporting our moves from country to country and also between companies whilst encouraging me in furthering my professional studies - all whilst raising our two daughters and pursuing her own career. I love to read and my favorite author is Dan Simmons. He can be very dark but his Ilium/Olympus series is so well written and engrossing that it becomes very difficult to put down.

6. When did you join Tricor & Why did you join Tricor?

I joined in April 2018. I could see tremendous opportunities within the company and a company that had a vision that resonated with me. I spent my first week with Tricor in Hong Kong and knew from the first second that I entered the offices that I had made the right decision.
